The story
What is Corduroy Fields?
Corduroy Fields is a band, a toolbox, and a place to hang out on the internet. It started as a project for the band — things we needed, built the way we wanted them. Then strangers started showing up. So we kept building.
The band
We're musicians from Edmonton, AB
Corduroy Fields is a working band out of Edmonton, Alberta. Live, we play a mix of originals and covers — but only our own material gets posted here. Copyright is real and we respect it. The sound is hard to label neatly, which is how we like it.
We built this site because we needed somewhere to put the music, post show dates, and share the tools we kept building for rehearsal and live work. It made sense to put it all in one place under one name.
Original tracks and gig photos are coming. When they're ready, they'll live right here — free to stream and download, no forms to fill out.
The tools
Built because we needed them
Every tool on this site exists because someone in the band needed it and couldn't find a free version that worked the way they wanted. So we built them. They run entirely in your browser — no accounts, no data collected, nothing installed.
The builder
One person, too many projects
The tools are built and maintained by Joel Davies, drummer and the tech person in the band. By day, Joel runs Computers Edmonton, an IT managed services company based in Edmonton that handles infrastructure and technology for businesses across Alberta.
Corduroy Fields is the opposite of that work — no SLAs, no tickets, no on-call rotation. Just building things that are useful or interesting, and putting them somewhere anyone can reach them.
Why it's free
Because it should be
The tools are free because making them cost nothing but time, and charging for a chord transposer feels wrong. The music is free because we'd rather have people hear it than not hear it.
The site runs ads to cover hosting costs. That's the whole deal — no subscriptions, no paywalls, no premium tier. Use whatever you need.
